The Selfish Giant 2013
Plot Synopsis
Set in a post-industrial ghost town in Northern England, this gut-wrenching, starkly beautiful portrait of the young and the damned centers on the unlikely friendship between a pair of polar-opposite middle-school outcasts: Arbor, the aggressive skinny blond who is constantly on edge, and his best pal Swifty, a brunet softie with a physique that resembles the cuddly Pooh Bear. Products of their respective dysfunctional families, they see a glimpse of hope when they meet Kitten, the quietly menacing owner of a local scrapyard who lures them with the promise of money in exchange for "collecting" scrap metal for him. It is only a matter of time before they are caught up with greed and envy, causing an inevitable rupture in their friendship to devastating effect.
